On 8 April 2014, support and updates for Windows XP and Office 2003 will no longer be available. Don’t let your PC go unprotected.
Microsoft has provided support for Windows XP and Office 2003 for more than 10 years. But now the time has come for Microsoft, along with their hardware and software partners, to invest their resources toward supporting more recent technologies so that they can continue to deliver great new experiences.
As a result, after 8 April 2014, technical assistance for Windows XP and Office 2003 will no longer be available. After this date, Windows XP will no longer be a supported operating system. To help organisations complete their migrations, Microsoft will continue to provide updates to antimalware signatures and engine for Windows XP users through 14 July 2015.
What does end of support mean to you?
It means you should take action. After 8 April 2014, there will be no new Windows XP operating systems security updates, non-security hotfixes, free or paid assisted support options or online technical content updates.
Running Windows XP SP3 and Office 2003 in your environment after their end of support date may expose your company to potential risks, such as:
- Security & Compliance Risks: Unsupported and unpatched environments are vulnerable to security risks. This may result in an officially recognised control failure by an internal or external audit body, leading to suspension of certifications, and/or public notification of the organisation’s inability to maintain its systems and customer information. With Microsoft extended provision of updates to antimalware signatures and engine for Windows XP users, the System Center Endpoint Protection, Forefront Client Security, Forefront Endpoint Protection, Windows Intune running on Windows XP and Microsoft Security Essentials will still receive updates for limited time. However, the research shows that the effectiveness of antimalware solutions on out-of-support operating systems is limited. Running a well-protected solution starts with using modern software and hardware designed to help protect against today’s threat landscape.
- Lack of Independent Software Vendor (ISV) & Hardware Manufacturers support: As more software and hardware manufacturers continue to optimise for more recent versions of Windows, you can expect to encounter greater numbers of apps and devices that do not work with Windows XP.
Get current with Windows and Office. This option has upside well beyond keeping you supported. It offers more flexibility to empower employees to be more productive, while increasing operational efficiency through improved PC security and management. It also enables your organisation to take advantage of latest technology trends such as virtualisation and the cloud. Windows 8.1 makes it easy to do all the things you’re used to doing with Windows XP while opening up a whole new world of possibilities for you to explore and enjoy.

For SMEs the deployment time is less, but there is now less than three months left before the end of support.
